How To: Silent install EA Origin to non default directory
Posted by Panagiotis Mantzouranis on 27 August 2014 02:44 PM

Silent installing EA Origin in the default directory (c:\Program Files (x86)\Origin) is fairly simple:

  • Download the latest EA Origin FULL installer from here -
  • Run OriginSetup.exe /silent. This will install Origin in the default dir and skip the EULA
  • To update Origin in the future, simply download the newer OriginSetup.exe and repeat the proccess.

If, on the other hand, you wish to install EA Origin in a different directory (e.g. D:\Games\Origin) you will have to use a more complex method (until someone discovers the command line parameter that specifies installdir)

We will trick Origin into thinking that it is already installed but with an older version. Origin will then automatically update the version on the specified dir. Use the following batch:

@echo off

set ORIGIN_DIR=D:\Games\Origin

taskkill /im "origin.exe" /f

taskkill /im "originSetup.exe" /f

REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Origin" /v "ClientPath" /d "%ORIGIN_DIR%\Origin.exe" /f

REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Origin" /v "ClientVersion" /d "" /f

REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Origin" /v "ClientPath" /d "%ORIGIN_DIR%\Origin.exe" /f

REG ADD "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Origin" /v "ClientVersion" /d "" /f

If NOT exist "%ORIGIN_DIR%\origin.exe" (

md "%ORIGIN_DIR%\"

echo. 2>"%ORIGIN_DIR%\origin.exe"

start /wait "" %WORKING_DIRECTORY%originsetup.exe" /silent

Change ORIGIN_DIR= to the desired directory. This batch works both for 32 and 64 bit OS. Place the batch file in the same folder with originSetup.exe and launch it from the client.

Notice that installing Origin to a non-default directory does not also change the game installation path. In order to do so you will have to launch Origin on a client, change the path in Origin settings and then manually copy "%APPDATA%\Origin\local.xml" file to every other client.
